Library Notes - October 2020

The 2019 - 2020 Season that was

As we kicked off our latest season via Zoom we wanted to capture the year that was, and my what a difference a year makes.

Meetings are traditionally held five times annually, on the third Saturday in the months of January, March, May, September, and November. We offer Jane fans an opportunity to discuss a variety of Austen related topics both literary and scholarly including Jane’s life, her novels, the Regency period and more.

This last season our topics included:

September 21 - Upstairs-Downstairs: Celebrating the Anticipated Downton Abbey movie! We will uncover the 'downstairs' in the Regency Period and how the roles were referenced in Jane Austen. A creative writing 'downstairs-upstairs' group activity will bring out the author in all of us.

November 16 - Lace and Lace Making: Come learn about the delicate art of lace making and try your hand at the craft yourself!

January 18 - Jane Austen Birthday Tea which you can read about in the Blog.

And then of course things changed… though we so wanted to meet again, our March 21 - The Art of Letter Writing and Calligraphy meeting was cancelled and then moved to this last September session which you can read about in the Blog. Our May 9 - Mothers in Jane Austen - Join us for Mother's Day weekend fun too was cancelled but we do hope to revisit the topic soon. Why were the mothers hysterical, naive, common or absent? What role did the mothers play and how did they impact the heroines?

We want to thank all our faithful members for their continued support and welcome our latest members too. If you or someone you know has a love of all things Jane Austen, we encourage you to get in touch. You are also welcome to join us for the latest 2020- 2021 season as we still have fun and interesting programing coming via Zoom.

Thank you and kind regards,
